TThere is no service quite like it.
We arrive in darkness — which is exactly right. Because what is coming has not yet come, and we should feel that in our bones before we feel anything else.
The Vigil is the first Mass of Easter. The moment we have spent forty days moving toward. Forty days of sitting with His suffering, His sacrifice, the staggering weight of what He chose to give — just for us.
And then the darkness breaks.
What happens in that moment is not quiet. It is visceral and joyful and full in a way that a bright spring morning, for all its beauty, cannot quite replicate. You feel the Resurrection. You don't just hear it read aloud. You feel it move through the room.
And then we go out into the night.
This is my favorite part. The world is calm and cool and still, and your heart is so full there is nothing left to say. He has given everything. Absolutely everything. And we go home and we sleep in peace, knowing that.
That is enough. That is more than enough.
