Interview with Frances Thrasher on Wren & Wild

Interview with Frances Thrasher on Wren & Wild

Wren & Wild, a gorgeous clean and green beauty boutique with locations in Oregon and Texas, interviews Kindred Skincare Co. founder and creator Frances Thrasher.

How would you describe your job to a child?
I create combinations of oils that safely and gently clean and moisturize your face and body.

What is your personal philosophy or motto?
I SO love this quote from Buddha: “In the end, only three things matter: How much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you”.

What’s the next thing you’d like to scratch off your bucket list?
I would absolutely love to visit the natural beauty and peacefulness of Bhutan! But I am also working on creating my dream farm filled with rescue animals that can be used for therapy. I am such a believer in therapy animals for all types of rehabilitation!

How do you recharge?
Family and friends are the bedrock of my life. I am surrounded by the most amazing and inspiring people; they lift me and fill me on a daily basis.

But I have also been a long time fan of a Shinrin Yoku, or forest bathing. It calms and heals the soul from even the toughest of days. Walking through the woods, listening to birdsong, and the trickling water in the creek next to the path that I frequent recharges my battery. Combine the beauty of the woods with the sweet nature of my wonderful rescue horse and you have just described the best blood pressure medication in the world!

What story do your friends always tell about you?
It’s probably a bullet list of proclivities and descriptions: always praying for patience, always in cowboy boots (even at church), loving to cook for my friends and family. If you are my friend or family, I will have your back to the very end. I can’t imagine my life without a collection of rescued animals following me everywhere.

Why is clean beauty important to you?
I have no choice; my skin and body dictate the importance of clean beauty. My skin can spot an artificial ingredient or unnecessary filler in a moment. After years of overexposure, my skin will not tolerate anything but the most genuine of ingredients. Even though most people are not as allergic to chemicals as I am, I want to improve education on the dangers of so many common additives!

What kind of impact do you hope Kindred Skincare has on people?
We have been indoctrinated into using commercial products, and I want men and women to realize that they will have such wonderful and gentle efficacy using plant oils. If you use Kindred, both you and your skin will benefit from all the love and energy I add to these incredible botanicals!

What is your favorite clean beauty ingredient?
Tamnau butter or oil. It’s the most amazing healing oil, it is my true panacea.

What songs are included on the soundtrack of your life?
ALL SONGS! There is ALWAYS music on in the shop; its part of the beautiful energy that we maintain at all times in the lab! Depending on the mood you could hear anything from Big Band, Chuck Berry, Motown, Led Zeppelin, 80’s punk, Vince Guaraldi, Donald Fagen, Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, chill house music or even Vivaldi harpsichord concertos. Music is vital to my day; it’s all around me all the time!

What is the worst style choice you’ve ever made?
In 1978 I wanted my hair to look like Dorothy Hamill or Toni Tenille. However, I have very curly, frizzy hair. So, a layered bob turned into a tragic mess for an elementary school girl.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in 2018?
As a small business owner, there is not just one lesson from each year, but a collection of learning curves to help me continually rebound and grow in spite of tough days!
